orca screen reader and Oracle takeover of CSun
February 6th, 2010 by jkenn337Hello
I hear that Oracle is taking over CSun. This means that development of the orca screen reader could diminish greatly or cease. those who like and use Orca please write to Oracle and CSUN and express your concerns.

Yes, we all have to stick together if we want to insure Orca’s continued development. Oracle has really put anyone with a visual disability in to a bind. This has the potential to really limit our choice of OS in the future if not taken care of immediately.

yes storm I agree. If Orca goes away we as blind users will be limited to text console interfaces using speakup or yasr or sbl or emacspeaks. no more firefox open office thnderbird or anything like that. I am not a developer, otherwise I would help.

Agreed Storm. If Oracle is in charge of this, you bet your life they won’t wanna do anything about it seeing as they’ll be focused on money, and probably the MySQL and OpenSolaris (e.g. Anything open and free) will get yanked unless we do something. So what do we do? Writing emails and letters can only do so much. Somebody needs to be uber rich and quit their job and code Orca full-time. That’s the main problem. all devels have a life and can’t go on tirelessly writing Orca and fixing bugs.
